Synopsis

The Realm of Angbar: Elfhelm's Bane is a text-based RPG for the Apple II. Players arrive in the city of Elfhelm, where a sinister priesthood devoted to the evil Wormlord has established a temple at the city's center. As a warrior, priest, or mage, the player explores locations such as the mall, arena, clanhouse, pawnshop, and palace while battling hostile townsfolk and growing hordes of enemies. Combat and exploration are entirely text-driven, with experience and gold used to gain levels through costly training. The game features a single quest: defeating the Wormlord, though victory provides no reward or ending text. Elfhelm's Bane was also intended to support additional adventure scenarios, with inaccessible entrances to these unfinished expansions scattered throughout the city.
